Seniortek home application
One of society’s challenges is to face the growing need for sheltered housing with the ageing population. The needs of seniors are individual and sheltered housing is not always possible or the most desired alternative for seniors. There is also a desire to support and extend living at home for as long as possible. Seniortek has developed a home application of its security and surveillance system that responds to the challenges posed by home living in the best ways possible from the perspectives of the senior citizen and society.
How the system works
The easy-to-use system may be adjusted to home care according to the resident, with consideration for the condition and daily rhythm of the senior citizen. The system operates using six discreet and reliable motion detectors, which means the resident does not have the feeling of being watched over at home. The system works without a wristband and the alarm does not require any actions by the resident.
The home carer receives alarms sent direct to the mobile telephone, and monitoring and resident-specific adjustments for home care occur via a computer screen. Movement is shown as icons to ensure the privacy of the resident is maintained.
Thanks to technology, senior citizens can live at home safely for longer and savings will be made in medical costs incurred by accidents.
System functions
The system communicates the following information to the home care:
1. when the resident is in bed, 2. real-time movement data, 3. fire warning, 4. pressing of call button.
The system automatically sends alerts for the following situations:
1. if the resident has fallen or collapses, 2. if the resident has left the residence, 3. if the resident has been motionless for a certain period (e.g. no movement for 4 hours, being in bed for over 12 hours, or has not been in bed for 20 hours)
System alarms may be adjusted according to the daily rhythm of the resident.
System benefits
Benefits from the home care and employee perspective:
1. home care will know when the resident is in the residence and if the resident is mobile. 2. in case of a possible accident or fit, the information will be communicated to the carer in real time and treatment may be initiated immediately. 3. unnecessary checks will be avoided 4. the system is easy to use.
Benefits from the perspective of the resident:
1. alarms are sent automatically, the resident does not need to act in the case of possible accident or fit 2. surveillance is discreet and safe. 3. the system will significantly increase the feeling of security for the resident.
Benefits from the perspective of the management:
1. resources can be focused correctly – work arrangement is flexible 2. the system produces reports of the events and possible visits 3. the system maintains an accurate alarm log, that may be used to monitor changes in the resident’s situation
Technical details
1. surveillance is handled with six sensors 2. information communicated: when the resident is in bed, real-time information on movement, fire alert and pushing of call button 3. alarms communicated: if the resident has fallen/collapsed, left the residence or been motionless for a certain period 4. alarms are first directed to e.g. the home care control room and forwarded direct to the mobile telephone of the home carer 5. alarm activations and changes are made using the control room computer of the home care, which also shows all alerts 6. the home application can be either installed to a new location or as an extra property added to an existing Service Home Concept system
Commissioning the system
An agreement concerning the commissioning of the Seniortek home application may be made with the local authority, city, foundation or private individual who is responsible for home care residents and those within the scope of their agreements. The devices used in the home application may be hired, sold or supplied as a complete solution
Alarms may be received in Rovaniemi by the Seniortek control room or in any sheltered accommodation served by Seniortek and delivered to the agreed home carer.
The service may also be supplied direct to a private home. Alarms will be directed via the control room to relatives.
