CASE PELLO

The Municipality of Pello forecasted the growth in the need for sheltered housing, so new ways of working were sought with utilising new technologies. On-site familiarisation with the Serviced Residence Concept in Kemi assisted formulation of the ultimate solution.

Systems to cater to the concept were facilitated by renovating a normal three-storey apartment block into a serviced residence by using the first two storeys as sheltered housing and the top floor as rental apartments. Both sheltered housing residents and tenants enjoy their own peace and quiet.

The Serviced Residence Concept has been used for six months in the Kotitie Sheltered Housing. The provision of sheltered housing in the municipality has improved and the neighbouring municipalities have expressed an interest in the solution adopted by Pello, tells Care Service Director Maarit Kivilompolo. Even after a short period of use, Maarit has seen the new functional model as increasing the security and wellbeing of residents and carers. The systems can be adjusted to suit the conditions and needs of residents. Maarit feels very content about the system on behalf of the residents: “People can be in precisely the right place according to their condition and receive the appropriate support and assistance when needed”. The surveillance systems also allow more effective nighttime surveillance with increased safety and security.

At first, there was a little apprehension with taking on new technologies, but according to Maarit the Serviced Residence Concept was astonishingly clear and easy to use. Seniortek arranged training into the use of the systems and has always been ready and willing to provide help and guidance if we had something to ask. Our chat with Maarit ended with a mutual statement. “Modern technology really can work wonders!”

“The corridors have now been much quieter without unnecessary check-up visits and the residents are more relaxed than before.”
